FINAL DESTINATION

August 25, 2013

At a really cheap rate of $46 I got a direct flight, 1300 km long, from Thailand to Malaysia. Yup that's right, I'm in Malaysia. This is, unfortunately, the LAST stop on my summer journey. Luckily, I am ending my travels on a positive note. Malaysia was a big, beautiful and surprisingly modern place. I stayed in Kuala Lampur and this is what I mean by surprisingly modern:

Isn't it gorgeous? I thought so. This city is the 6th most visited city per year in the world. In this city there was so much to see, so I decided to take a day tour which consisted of seeing old vs urban Malaysia. My mom and I got to see the King's Palace, the Independence square and the Petronas Twin Towers (largest twin towers in the world.

It looked like they were falling! Retail is pretty popular there, so needless to say, I definitely got some retail therapy (much need after the long flight hahaha).

The beautiful view of the towers from my hotel! Plus a pic of the inside of my hotel.

Plus you already know I ate some good, good food. One of my favourite parts of travelling if you didn't already figure it out LOL.

This Malaysian dish consists of a flaky bread and some curry, and it was soooo good.

This bowl is called Curry Laska, which is a creamy curry with coconut milk and other deliciousness topped with shrimp! (is your mouth watering yet??)

If you're a food lover than you should probably know that there is food sold on "street stalls" which is street food, equivalent to a food cart downtown Toronto. On the street stalls you can find all sorts of goodness. From left to right below there is Kway Teow (kind of like pad thai noodles) and Cendol (which is coconut, shaved ice, rice flour jelly with chocolate sauce - perfect for a hot night)

Unfortunately I have to hop on a longgggg flight home now, hopefully I'll have a nice rest in a food coma for the majority of the flight. I'll be sure to post when I get home. Talk to ya soon!

LAST STOP

After a busy couple of weeks travelling I have concluded my visit to South America. I ended my visits on a good note in Trinidad and Tobago. I travelled about 376 km from St. Lucia to Port of Spain On a short, direct 1 hour plane ride that cost on $135. I stayed two nights in Port of Spain on the Trinidad Island. In POS I went to the popular tourist destination of Maracas Bay/Waterfall. This popular destination is home of a beautiful beach and scenic rain forest; waterfall included.

I also ate at a yummy restaurant that served local cuisine with fresh products!! It was so cute and decorated with local art, some of which you could purchase. The restaurant is called Veni Mange.

For the next two nights I took a short 25 minute, 115 km plane ride to the smaller island of Tobago. The flight was really cheap too, only $50! I rented a car for the day and took a mini road trip in Tobago. It was strange driving on the lefthand side of the road, but I went to so many places. First was Englishman's Bay, which is an uncrowded beach with a small cafe close by. Then i went to Bloody and Argyle Falls where I did some hiking.

TAKE TWO

July 24, 2013

Ahhh Castries, St. Lucia.... It is stunning! I am currently 4 days in to my 5 day trip to this beautiful island. Although there was a 23 hour and 20 minute flight from costa rica to here (about a 17 hour layover in Miami), the two countries I've stayed at are only about 2700 km apart. It was also pricey, about $650, but totally worth it.. Luckily the time is the same as at home so I had no problem adjusting!

In St. Lucia it was a must to visit the breathtaking beaches. I went to Malabar beach which had golden sand and there weren't many tourists which was nice. It was also close to popular areas to shop and dine. I wanted to eat with the locals and found a cute beach bar called Spinnakers, where fresh seafood, especially shrimp, was brought in daily.

I must go, because I have a flight early in the morning tomorrow. Unfortunately this means I can't explore tomorrow, but it also means I get to my next destination!!! I can't WAIT :)

Finally Here~

The first of the three regions I'm travelling to is South America and I finally arrived at my first destination..... COSTA RICA! After spending $243, travelling 3722 km and exactly 7 hours from the Toronto Pearson to the Costa Rica Liberia airport with a 1 hr and 10 minute stop in Miami I was exhausted. Luckily there is only a small time difference (CET - 2 hours behind EST) and it was already night time so I got a good nights rest for the exciting 5 days to come.

One of my favourite places to visit here was the Tenorio Volcano National Park where there are trails, geysers, springs and obviously the volcano.

This is the Rio Celeste (literally meaning sky blue river) at the Tenorio Park.
In one of the rivers I even went river rafting, it was awesome!!

Another activity I enjoyed was the " safari float tour" at the Corobici River. It was surrounded by a lush jungle and wildlife. This was an excellent way of experiencing eco tourism as the guide on the raft provided information on the different plants and animals we saw and even history of the island! I spotted monkeys and iguanas all over the place!!!

I also went on the cultural tour of the town Liberia, it was great! I have to get ready for my next flight now.

(You can't see me, but I'm in the boat furthest away)
