Home Sweet Home

August 26, 2012

FINALLY HOME, after a LONG 20 hour 45 minute flight from Malaysia to Toronto. That was the most exhausting 14827 km and $1507 I've spent sitting down. Luckily there was a short layover in Hong Kong where I could stretch my legs and eat some non-airplane food. Needless to say I am extremely jetlagged, but I didn't want to leave you guys hanging or worried... :P So yes, after almost a full do of excruciating travel I am home. Although it is nice to be comfortable and relaxed at home it is rather... Disappointing. It hasn't even been 24 hours and I'm already missing the excitement and adventure of being on the road. I've been so many places and feel so full of culture that being at home has become so dull. So I guess it's safe to say that you can expect more trips to be planned ASAP. Maybe even another blog ;) Thanks y'all for coming on this journey with me and hopefully there will be another one soon! Xox

FINAL DESTINATION

August 25, 2013

At a really cheap rate of $46 I got a direct flight, 1300 km long, from Thailand to Malaysia. Yup that's right, I'm in Malaysia. This is, unfortunately, the LAST stop on my summer journey. Luckily, I am ending my travels on a positive note. Malaysia was a big, beautiful and surprisingly modern place. I stayed in Kuala Lampur and this is what I mean by surprisingly modern:

Kuala-Lumpur-1.jpg

Isn't it gorgeous? I thought so. This city is the 6th most visited city per year in the world. In this city there was so much to see, so I decided to take a day tour which consisted of seeing old vs urban Malaysia. My mom and I got to see the King's Palace, the Independence square and the Petronas Twin Towers (largest twin towers in the world.

It looked like they were falling! Retail is pretty popular there, so needless to say, I definitely got some retail therapy (much need after the long flight hahaha).

The beautiful view of the towers from my hotel! Plus a pic of the inside of my hotel.

Plus you already know I ate some good, good food. One of my favourite parts of travelling if you didn't already figure it out LOL.

This Malaysian dish consists of a flaky bread and some curry, and it was soooo good.

This bowl is called Curry Laska, which is a creamy curry with coconut milk and other deliciousness topped with shrimp! (is your mouth watering yet??)

If you're a food lover than you should probably know that there is food sold on "street stalls" which is street food, equivalent to a food cart downtown Toronto. On the street stalls you can find all sorts of goodness. From left to right below there is Kway Teow (kind of like pad thai noodles) and Cendol (which is coconut, shaved ice, rice flour jelly with chocolate sauce - perfect for a hot night)

Unfortunately I have to hop on a longgggg flight home now, hopefully I'll have a nice rest in a food coma for the majority of the flight. I'll be sure to post when I get home. Talk to ya soon!

THAILAND~~~

August 20, 2013

Bangkok, Thailand..... My second last destination, how crazy! It was a $263 flight and 2213 km, but 7 hour and 15 minutes (including a layover of 1 hour and 25 minutes) I was in my second last destination! I can't believe it's almost done. Anyway, I wanted to tell you guys about Bangkok! First of all, it's split into 50 districts, which is useful to know for getting around and you don't want to end up in a business district (boooooring). There is so much diversity in what to do! So a few of the things that I did were visit Pak Khlong Talat, Bang Kra Jao and Wat Pho.

bangkok_06.jpgimg_3149.jpg

Pak Khlong Talat is a market for flowers, fruits and vegetables. It was interesting being in the community with all of the locals, but luckily my mom has friends in Bangkok who could guide around and translate. Apparently this market is known as a place with symbolic value to locals. It is also located close to the memorial bridge:

The Bang Kra Jao is an interesting place as it is a patch of jungle in the middle of Bangkok's skysracpers. The wildlife in the Bang Kra Jao includes birds, giant lizards, tropical fruit and lush forests.

As Buddhism is about 95% of the population's religion, I thought visiting Wat Pho would be culturally interesting. As Wat Pho is a Buddhist temple, named after a monastery where Buddha was believed to have lived. It's also known as the birthplace of thai massage. Hmmm... I think I might get one of those when I get home hhahaah. This is what the temple looked like:

Aaaaand of course I HAD to get pad thai noodles in Thailand!!! Here's what my pad thai look like mmmm.

Alright my peeps, I'll talk to you once I'm in my LAST destination of my DREAM TRIP AROUND THE WORLD. Talk to you soon!

HELLO ASIA! :)

August 15, 2013

As you can see, another blog, another place I visited. This was my first stop in Asia, Nepal!!! The flight from Brussels to Nepal, Kathmandu was 17 hour 55 minute flight with a 6 hour 45 minute layover. This long 7055 km ride was a well spent $920. I'm sad to say I'm in my last region already :( but it has been awesome and I can't wait to explore Asia. Especially since I met up with my mom here (she knows people and has asian hookups). In Kathmandu I did a 4 day tour. (I know, I'm here for 5 days, but I needed to take a break for one day and rest - SO tired from the travelling.) The first place I visited was theDurbar Square which is the plaza located in front of the old royal palace of Kathmandu. It was a nice place to take an evening stroll with my mom.

Nepalese food consists of a lot of spices and boy are they delicious. I had traditional Nepali food including Daal Bhat which is rice and side dishes. It looked like this:

The next day I went to Swayambhunath, which is a Buddhist stupa(temple). And another Buddhist temple called Boudhanath which is the largest stupa in the world.

I also went on a mountain flight where I got to see a breathtaking view of the Himalayan mountains including Mount Everest.

This is a picture of the golden gate which is the gate to the 55-window palace:

I'm done my blog today for Nepal, which is a beautiful place. SO glad I got to see the Himalayan mountains and Mount everest before I died! I'll talk to you in my next destination ;) SEE YA!!

Goodbye Europe!

August 10, 2012

It is officially my last day in Europe, which is bittersweet. I'm excited to see my next region, but sad to be saying goodbye to another beautiful place. The last stop in Europe was spent on a 3 day trip to Brussels, Belgium. I got here via a 264km train ride (in the Chunnel) directly from Paris to Brussels which only cost $42 and was only 1 hour and 22 minutes. In brussels I saw the manneken pis, a funny little statue (picture below) and at night I saw the town hall, which glows beautifully at night. The next day I spent a sweet afternoon at the Chocolate museum, lots of yummy belgian chocolates. Then for dinner I went to a restaurant called L'ogenblik, which had a large variety of seafood, my favourite! I also went to a place to pick up Belgian chocolate for my mom, because I'm going to be meeting her at my next destination.
Overall, Western Europe was an exciting place with lots of delicious food everywhere I went. I'm definitely glad I came and will probably be back to explore the other countries that I have yet to see.
